Far House Cottage - A Holiday Cottage in the Black Mountains
Delightful and secluded self-catering holiday cottage in the Black Mountains, on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Far House Cottage is a stone built, two-bedroom holiday cottage just outside the hamlet of Bettws, in a wooded valley in the heart of the Black Mountains. Some of the finest hill walking in southern Britain starts at the front door.

Where is our Rental Holiday Cottage
Tucked away in a fold of the Black Mountains, and facing south with views of Sugar Loaf mountain, the cottage feels remote, though Abergavenny (all amenities) is 3 miles away and the delightful town of Crickhowell is only 6 miles away. Horse trekking, paragliding, golf, mountain biking, canoeing, hawking and fly fishing all happen within a few miles of your door. Half a mile away (15 minutes cross country) there is a fine pub, the Crown at Pantygelli, serving real ales and excellent food.

Holiday Cottage Amenities
Far House Cottage is detached and self-catering. It comprises one double bedroom and one twin bedroom, bathroom (with shower), separate lavatory and an open-plan kitchen/living area with a wood burner. The cottage was re-painted in late 2005. The kitchen has been recently equipped. There is an electric cooker and fridge. There are exposed beams and stone throughout and the cottage is carefully decorated with paintings, maps and books. Heating is electric (night storage heaters) with a log burning fire (wood provided).

There is parking beside the cottage and a south-facing garden with a lawn, a patio area, garden furniture and a barbecue. Far House is no longer a working farm, so well behaved dogs are welcome in the holiday cottage.

Brecon Beacons & Black Mountains - What to do?
The Brecon Beacons National Park is a particularly good area for hill walking. A footpath passes below the house, connecting to a network that leads to all the major peaks in the Black Mountains. The mountain biking trails in the Black Mountains are, of course, outstanding. Llanthony Valley, which has very good pony trekking facilities, is only a few miles away. The multi-award winning mining museum – Big Pit – is 20 minutes by car. Abergavenny and the surrounding area is fast gaining a reputation – through the Abergavenny Food Festival, the award-winning pubs and the local producers – for fine food.

Eat & Drink
Our local, The Crown Inn at Pantygelli, is 2 minutes by car or a ten-minute stride along the brook and over the fields: www.thecrownatpantygelli.com
Further a field, about 6 miles away, The Foxhunter has won over plenty of national critics: www.thefoxhunter.com

Far House Cottage is well situated for exploring the southern Marches: Hay-on-Wye is a breathtakingly scenic 40-minute drive away. Brecon is also 40 minutes in the other direction. Heading east, the Forest of Dean, with its excellent family cycle ways, is half an hour and nearer still, there are Norman Castle ruins at Grosmont, Skenfrith and White Castle which are connected by footpaths and signposted cycelways.

However, you might just want to sit in the garden and watch the wealth of birdlife that the valley attracts, or amble along the stream to the local pub.
