A public footpath passes very close by and some of the finest hill walking in southern Britain starts at the front door. The Crown Inn - good food and real ales - is two minutes in the car or a delightful 20 minute walk along the brook that runs below us. The top of Bryn Arw, with superb views over the Black Mountains and much of Monmouthshire is a 30-minute walk, on the common land behind the cottage and the summit of Sugar Loaf Mountain is a good 90 minute stride. Llanthony Valley, Partrishow Church, Llanbedr (with another fine pub, the Red Lion) and Hay on Wye are all close by. There are a handful of superb, award winning gastro-pubs all within a 30 minute radius.
